When it comes to towing tens of thousands of pounds of equipment or being rugged enough for the job site, you need the right truck. The wrong truck will end a job very quickly.
The new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty pickup is the right truck for the job – any job.
The Ram 2500 three-quarter ton and 3500 one-ton start with a distinctive design. Over twenty years ago, we revolutionized pickup truck design by crafting the look of a long nose over the highway truck onto the cab. That design remains today as Ram’s look – tall nose with a huge grille, lower-set fenders with headlamp clusters on each one, and a bumper that’s bold and highly functional. The Heavy Duty comes in three cab configurations – Regular two-door, Crew Cab four-door with room for up to six adults inside, and the largest cab ever offered in a pickup – the MegaCab. Depending on the cab, there is a choice of bed sizes, starting with six-foot-four inches to eight feet long stretched over three wheelbases. Ram 3500s can be equipped with a dual rear wheel set-up.
Part of being the best truck in the business is having the best cab in the business. Ram’s interiors have always been high quality regardless of which trim is selected. A big steering wheel frames one of the most comprehensive instrument clusters around. In higher trim models, a large 8.4-inch UConnect touch screen display can be customized with a wide choice of readouts available for vehicle and trip functions. The new 12-inch UConnect touch screen is available handling infotainment, radio, mobile application support and an optional navigation system. There is also the rotary e-shift connected to the eight-speed automatic, saving room from a shifter on the console and leaving the steering column free. You have a choice of power.
The big 6.4-liter HEMI V8 with 429 pound-feet of torque on tap is capable of a maximum towing rating of 17,130 pounds and hauling 6,600 pounds of payload in the box. This big V8 is connected to an eight-speed transmission designed for smooth shifts, hauling the goods, and returning improved fuel economy than before.
The ultimate Ram engine is the 6.7-liter High Output Cummins turbocharged diesel. What makes this Cummins diesel is one big number: the segment-leading 1000 pound-feet of torque. The result of that massive torque is a maximum towing capacity of 35,100 pounds and a maximum payload rating of 7,680 pounds. The Cummins diesel is available in a six-speed automatic transmission with a choice of two- or four-wheel drive.
To offset the load, the Ram Heavy Duty has a three-link front suspension connected to a 50 KSI steel frame. These may not mean anything unless the job calls for a big towing job or a big haul to be done. The Ram 2500 offers the only coil-spring rear suspension in the business. For the smoothest ride that can balance any load, coils work well to ensure that nothing is broken – including everyone in the cab.
There is also the class-exclusive Ram Box storage system. A Ram Box on each side of the bed eliminates the need for a third-party box and enables quicker and lockable space for the tools of the trade.
Businesses buying a Ram Heavy Duty pickup are entitled to a new world of support provided by Ram Commercial. Fleet and small business customers will be able to shop for upfit options to customize their Ram from various vendors. Once a customer’s Ram Heavy Duty pickup is work ready, they are supported with Ram’s own BusinessLink – a program for small business towards easier purchasing of vehicles and a high level of support to keep their Ram 2500 or 3500 on the road.
