2017 Durango Towing Capacity

The Dodge Durango has impressive braking capabilities and confident stability that power you through even the most rugged terrain. The Durango comes equipped with a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 engine that reaches up to 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque. This engine is coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission to provide a smooth ride. The Durango also has available a 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and Fuel Saver Technology. This engine reaches 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft. of torque.

The towing capabilities of the Durango depend on the engine option you choose. The standard 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 engine is capable of towing up to 6,000 pounds, while the upgraded 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine can tow up to 7,400 pounds.

The front and rear drive axles on the Durango were designed to create a near-50/50 weight distribution. When you are accelerating, the weight shifts to the drive axle to increase downforce which helps to improve your traction control while you are hauling heavy loads. The Durango also has standard Trailer Sway Control technology that applies brake pressure on alternating wheels and may even adjust engine throttle to help eliminate trailer sway and maintain stability.
